Prof. Dr. Steffen Reichel

Steffen studied electrical engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern and spent 7 months at the Michigan State University, MI, USA. After his diploma degree (in 1996) he worked on his doctorate in the field of optical communications also at the University of Kaiserslautern. In 1999, he joined Lucent Technologies working on fiber optical communications, erbium-doped, and Raman amplifiers. From 2001 to 2016, he worked for SCHOTT on several fields of optics from imaging optics, fiber optics, waveguide optics, laser optics, illumination optics, optical measurements, and optical filters. Since 2012, he is working in the standardization working group "Optical materials" at DIN and since 2017 he is also member of the advisory board of the national standardization institute (DIN) for fine mechanics and optics. He is Senior Member and Fellow of SPIE, Senior Member of the IEEE, in 2013 he became professor (honorary) for “Optics & Photonics” at the University of Applied Science, Darmstadt, Germany. Since 2016, he is full time (W3) professor for metrology and photonics at Pforzheim University, Germany. Furthermore, he and his team won the SCHOTT innovation award 2016.
